I have to tell you it was the deal of all deals. The author of this book, Judy Howard, gave the sewing teacher free fabric (vintage stuff) so that her students could make free quilts so she decided to give free sewing classes to people making quilts for this event. All proceeds of the tour go to food banks. She is giving us the quilts back. So we ended up getting free sewing classes, a free quilt and a free cookbook (one each!) and soon we get to see our quilts up on display! How awesome is that! Especially for my little one though I have to tell you I am in love with my quilt...
Anyway some pics...
Please forgive the quality of Adreana's pictures. I had to take them with my sony camera in a badly lit room as we were leaving it and wouldn't be seeing it for 3 long years. Her description says: I picked the children because they were interesting. They are working hard in their gardens like I worked hard on this quilt. Children need good food to be healthy and on this quilt you can see all kinds of good food.
I had her do this as her Language Arts writing assignment of the week. This is the best writing she had done so far (or I think so). It goes to show that when you have real interest in what you are doing you are more likely to excell. I am so proud of how hard she worked on this quilt.
Obviously I had my big girl camera for my quilt. I love it soo much. I have no idea what I am going to do with it when it finally comes back to me as I really don't have a place for something like this in my home but I will find a place. I will probably send Adreana's to be packaged (since I have no cedar chest) for safe keeping until she gets older. Atleast those are the plans but as you all know plans change.
Our little quilts by no circumstances are perfect but they sure have a special place in our hearts...
You can see the rest of the quilts in the contest/show here: http://www.heavenlypatchwork.com/photos_of_food_for_body_and_soul_quilts.html You can see that there is another rooster quilt with a rooster on display. I made mine first and someone (one of the teacher's friend) wanted one so badly that she was able to convince her to do her own. There were about 3 or 4 roosters to choose from but I fell in love with this one when I saw it. Now just to wait, atleast till Saturday to see them again!
